Another New York Fashion Week (NYFW) has come and quickly passed, and the February 2017 Collections seemed to have drummed up more political media than anything else. Although there were some distinctive looks shown this season, presentations reeked with political undertones. Many designers took this opportunity to make strong statements against the current Trump administration, others stuck to the more traditional settings, and others yet continued forging the way for a more palatable industry. I am however, a bit despondent that more designers didn’t bless us with new collections that we could buy from immediately under the new in-season (see now, buy now) model. Ralph Lauren didn’t disappoint though, as the designer held his second in-season show this year, presenting a luxurious Spring 2017 collection in contrast to the sea of Fall 2017 collections around him. There was a theme of feminine strength throughout the season, as most designers were perhaps influenced -consciously or subconsciously – by the rising feminists movements that has now taken up residence in our daily lives. Whatever the reason, it’s amazing to see the strength of women translated into clothes. Here are some of my top favorite looks from this season.
