Getting onto a notable person’s summer playlist can be the highlight of any new and/or young artiste’s career. Getting onto the indistinguishable former President Barack Obama’s summer playlist is beyond an honor in itself.
Obama released his summer 2019 playlist via twitter on Saturday with an eclectic list of artistes and songs. The forty-four songs on the list were made up of old and new music covering everything from hip hop, R&B, Rock, Latin music, and that one dancehall track – “Toast” by Koffee.
“With summer winding down, here’s a sampling of what Michelle and I have been listening to — some new, some old, some fast, some slow,” he wrote on Twitter. “Hope you enjoy.”
The only Caribbean artiste on the list, Koffee was grateful for the recognition, sending out a tweet to her 48.9K followers expressing gratitude a few hours after Obama’s tweet.
The 19-year-old artiste from Spanish Town Jamaica has been receiving rave reviews for her radio hits “Toast” and “Rapture.” Koffee initially gained popularity in 2017 with her first song “Legend,” a tribute to Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, which she uploaded to Instagram. Bolt shared the short video of the young artiste singing the song with an acoustic guitar and it went viral.
Some other new and new-ish artistes that made the list were Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Rosalia & J Balvin, Camila Cabello with Shawn Mendes, alongside older artistes such as Steely Dan, Jill Scott, and Frank Sinatra!
